Seven COVID-19 deaths reported Wednesday as Kansas City metro adds nearly 475 new cases

The Kansas City metropolitan area added nearly 475 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths Wednesday.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas gained 474 new cases for a total of 28,909 to date.

The two week positive test rate in Kansas City was 12.4% and 16.58% in Jackson County.

The overall positive test rate was 8.08% in Clay County, 8.92% in Platte County, 7.6% in Johnson County and 18.4% in Wyandotte County.

The seven day rolling average for new cases sits at 361, the same as one week ago. Two weeks ago, it was 369. The average has dropped since Aug. 1 when it was 474.

Four of the recent deaths were in Johnson County, two were in Wyandotte County and one was in Jackson County. The metro has recorded 395 total COVID-19 deaths.

On Wednesday, Missouri reported 78,062 cases including 1,449 deaths. The seven day positive test rate was 12.2%. The overall positive test rate was 8.3%.

Kansas confirmed 39,937 cases including 437 deaths. The overall positive test rate was 10.1%.

Across the U.S., more than 5.8 million people have contracted the virus and 179,150 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
