North Kansas City, following KC, extends its mask order into 2021

Residents and visitors in North Kansas City will have to wear masks in public into 2021.

On Friday, Mayor Don Stielow extended the city’s mask order until Jan. 16.

Gatherings of more than 50 people on city property are also prohibited.

The city’s mask mandate initially went into effect July 2.

The order applies to both patrons and employees at the venues and includes grocery stores and public transit. An exception: patrons who are eating or drinking at a business while maintaining proper social distancing.

Children are exempt, though a memo from the city notes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “strongly recommends” children older than 2 wear face coverings.

Individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or who have a medical condition that prevents them from safely wearing a mask are also exempt.

Last week in Kansas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas extended the city’s mask mandate through at least mid-January.

The Kansas City metro — including Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas — has recorded 26,752 cases including 380 deaths.
