Kansas City metro sees 367 additional coronavirus cases, 3 deaths Thursday
Health officials in the Kansas City metro area reported an additional 367 coronavirus infections and three deaths Thursday.
In total, the virus has infected 26,752 metro residents, and 380 have died.
By this time last week, the metro — which includes Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas — had reported 24,355 cases and 358 deaths, according to data maintained by The Star.
As of Thursday, Johnson and Wyandotte counties continued to outpace other parts of the metro in the number of virus-related deaths, with 110 and 109, respectively.
There have been 6,786 infections reported in Johnson County and 5,447 in Wyandotte County.
Kansas City continued to see the highest number of infections with 8,073, including 66 deaths.
In Jackson County, there have been 4,828 infections, including 55 deaths.
Clay County has reported 1,194 infections, including 30 deaths. In Platte County, 424 residents have tested positive for the virus, including 10 who have died.
In Missouri, 71,733 residents have been infected by COVID-19, including 1,417 who have died, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The overall positive test rate was about 8%.
As of Wednesday, the last time it updated its data, Kansas reported 35,890 cases, including 411 deaths. The positive test rate was 10%.
Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 5.5 million Americans, killing 173,882, according to Johns Hopkins University.
