Do you live or work in Johnson County? Here’s how to get free COVID-19 test this week
Johnson County health officials will offer free COVID-19 testing to anyone 18 or older who lives or works in the county.
The department will administer drive-thru tests from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave. in Leawood.
You do not have to have coronavirus symptoms. Tests are administered on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out.
“The more we test, the more we know about how COVID-19 is spreading in Johnson County. If we know who is infected, we can isolate those individuals and stop the chain of transmission in the community,” Sanmi Areola, director of the county’s Department of Health and Environment, said in a statement.
The county will have five testing stations at the clinic. Cars should enter from Roe Avenue south of 135th Street and follow signs.
People should stay in their cars with their windows up until it’s time to test. The department asks people to not bring pets.
As of Tuesday, the county reported 1,316 positive cases and 81 deaths.
At the last testing event on June 12, the department tested 694 people and found 18 positive cases.
Areola urged people to wear masks in public or at work, avoid large crowds and keep six feet apart from others.
“We encourage anyone who feels ill with COVID-19 symptoms or thinks they may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 to take advantage of this free testing,” Areola said.
