Kansas City metro adds 90 more coronavirus cases and one new death on Friday
Ninety new cases of COVID-19 were identified Friday in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has a total of 4,776 cases.
The number of new cases this week rose by 81 on Monday, 164 on Tuesday, 129 on Wednesday and 133 on Thursday. The metro has had six days with triple-digit increases and half have been in June.
Thirty-one of Friday’s new cases were in Kansas City, 10 were in Jackson County, five were in Clay County, three were in Platte County, 19 were in Johnson County and 22 were in Wyandotte County.
Contributing to the spike this week was an outbreak of more than 200 cases linked to a Kansas City paper company.
The overall rates of positive tests were 4.01% in Kansas City, 3.9% in Jackson County, 2.2% in Clay County, 4% in Johnson County and 15.8% in Wyandotte County. Data was not available for Platte County.
One more death was reported, in Johnson County, raising the total for the metro to 196.
On Friday, Missouri reported 14,253 cases, resulting in 598 hospitalizations and 799 deaths.
Kansas reported 10,393 cases, resulting in 917 hospitalizations and 232 deaths.
Nationwide, more than 1.8 million people have contracted COVID-19 and more than 108,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
