Wyandotte County expands eligibility for COVID-19 tests, more testing sites announced
Officials in Wyandotte County announced Tuesday expanded eligibility for COVID-19 testing for people who live or work in the county.
In addition, more pop-up testing sites will also be set up across the county in the next two weeks, the Unified Government Public Health Department announced in partnership with the county’s Health Equity Task Force.
To be tested at the local health department or one of the pop-up testing sites, officials say residents or workers must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- They must have experienced at least one symptom in the past 48 hours.
- They are asymptomatic but have had close contact with a person who has tested positive, or in other words, have been within 6 feet of someone with COVID-19 for at least 10 minutes.
- They are asymptomatic but are associated to a known outbreak site.
Drive-through testing sites are scheduled through the month of May. The testing is held in coordination with Vibrant Health and Swope Health, and is provided free of charge to Wyandotte County residents. The testing will be held at the following locations during these dates and times:
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at the Kansas City Community Church, 5901 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 at Holy Name of Jesus, 1007 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS
- 2 to 6 p.m. May 21 at Veritiv, 2552 S. 98th St., Edwardsville, KS
- 2 to 6 p.m. May 26 at George Meyn Center, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs, KS
- 2 to 6 p.m. May 27 at Kansas City, Kansas, Community College Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, KS
- 2 to 6 p.m. May 28 at Salem Baptist Church, 1824 N. 11th St., Kansas City, KS
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 29 at Rainbow Mennonite Church and Rosedale Development Association, 1412 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS
The May 22 testing site will be announced at a later time.
Anyone who is looking to be tested at any of these locations is asked to register in advance by calling 913-371-9298.
The health department also offers drive-through and walk-up testing 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the parking lot at 619 Ann Ave. No appointment is needed.
“A strong network of community partners is dedicated to making testing more accessible by offering additional testing locations and hours,” Andrea Perdomo-Morales, chief program officer with Vibrant Health, said in a statement.
“By loosening the eligibility requirements for testing, we make COVID-19 testing available to more and more residents, even those who may not be showing any symptoms of the virus but who have been exposed to it. We are making sure that these individuals can find out if they are positive for the virus and isolate accordingly, which helps protect everyone in our community.”
