Johnson County reports 4 new deaths of COVID-19. 2,900 cases reported across metro

An additional 68 new cases of the coronavirus and four COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the Kansas City metro area on Saturday, according to statistics from the Kansas and Missouri state health agencies.

The area, which consists of Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, now reports 2,900 cases of the coronavirus and 146 deaths.

The metro added 96 cases on Friday, 118 on Thursday and 49 on Wednesday.

Kansas City accounted for 13 of Saturday’s 68 new cases.

Wyandotte County, with 1,045 COVID-19 cases, continues to report the greatest number of cases within the metro and is monitoring several outbreaks. It added 44 new cases on Saturday. The county reports that 189 people have recovered. About 23% of those tested for COVID-19 test positive.

Johnson County reported no new cases on Saturday, keeping the total at 583. Four more people died of COVID-19 for a total of 51 deaths in the county.

In Jackson County, 10 new cases were reported, bringing the total to 390 cases.

Clay County reported no new cases, keeping the total at 90, and Platte County reported one new case for a total of 40.

On Saturday, Kansas confirmed 6,751 cases, including 157 deaths. That was an increase of 250 cases and five new deaths.

Missouri reported 177 new cases for a total of 9,666 cases and 23 new deaths for a total of 472.

More than 1.3 million cases have been reported in the United States and more than 78,000 people have died, according to the latest statistics from Johns Hopkins University.
