Kansas City metro adds 98 more coronavirus cases Sunday
An additional 98 cases of the new coronavirus were reported in the Kansas City metro area Sunday, according to data from state health agencies in Kansas and Missouri.
The number of people infected with the new coronavirus rose to 2,384 in the Kansas City metro area Sunday.
The region — which includes Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas — has recorded 127 deaths.
That’s up by nearly 500 cases and 17 deaths from a week earlier.
Wyandotte County continues to outpace other counties in the metro and across Kansas in the number of positive test results, with 826 cases and 55 deaths. More than 160 people had recovered while 34 remained hospitalized, according to county data.
Johnson County has recorded 498 confirmed infections and 42 deaths.
In Kansas City, 609 people have tested positive and 16 have died. In Jackson County, 342
have been infected and 13 have died.
Clay County reported 76 cases and one death. Platte County has seen 33 residents test positive.
Missouri reported more than 230 new confirmed cases of the virus Sunday, bringing the state’s totals to 8,386 cases and 352 deaths.
More than half of the cases confirmed across the state continued to be found in the St. Louis region, with 4,567 cases and 234 deaths in the county and city combined.
Missouri ranked sixth to last in per capita testing of its residents as of Sunday, according to the Coronavirus API Public Health Initiative, which gathers data from state health websites.
In Kansas, officials recorded 5,030 cases and 134 deaths. The state ranked second to last ahead of Arizona in per capita testing of its residents Sunday; it previously ranked last.
Missouri has reported more cases than Kansas but has also tested more people.
Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 1 million people and killed 67,200, according to Johns Hopkins University.
