No new deaths were reported Friday in the Kansas City metropolitan area, but an additional 81 coronavirus cases were confirmed.

New cases increased this week by 28 on Monday, 25 on Tuesday and 61 on Wednesday. On Thursday, 104 new cases were reported, which was sharpest rise the metro has seen since its first case was identified on March 7.

The St. Louis area’s infection rate ranked 18th, according to the analysis, with 6,245 cases.

Parts of the metro are preparing to reopen as early Monday.

Stay-at-home orders in Clay and Platte counties will be lifted at 11:59 p.m. May 3.

Jackson County has joined Johnson and Wyandotte counties in beginning a phased reopening of its economy on May 11, four days earlier than originally planned.

Kansas City’s order runs until May 15.
