KC area ranks 47th in COVID-19 infection rate, according to analysis of major metros

The Kansas City area ranks 47th in its infection rate of the new coronavirus, according to an analysis of the country’s major metropolitan regions.

As of Thursday, 1,824 cases had been reported, meaning there were 86.6 cases per 100,000 people.

St. Louis ranks 18th with 222.6 cases per 100,000 people.

The hardest hit area in the country is New York City, which has seen more than 388,000 cases and 28,536 deaths. It is followed by New Orleans, Boston and Detroit.

The Kansas City metro has reported 122 deaths, according to the analysis, placing it at 29th for deaths per capita.

St. Louis ranks 17th with 331 deaths.

On Friday, Missouri reported 7,835 COVID-19 cases, including 337 deaths.
