Kansas reports an additional 163 coronavirus cases and four more deaths
Kansas reported 163 additional cases of the coronavirus and four more deaths on Tuesday.
A total of 3,491 people have tested positive and 124 people have died from COVID-19, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
With 24,599 negative tests, the positive rate is about 12%.
On Monday, the state saw an increase of 154 cases and two deaths.
The University of Kansas Health Care System said they are treating 26 patients for COVID-19. Of those, 11 are in the intensive care unit.
“All of our sheltering in place and social distancing, physical distancing, that we’ve been doing for the past four or five, six weeks, has been paying off,” said Dana Hawkinson, medical director of infection prevention and control at the system. “We may be at a new steady state or normal as far as the hospital goes.”
The hospital has also released 75 coronavirus patients.
Statewide, 504 people have been hospitalized.
Wyandotte County has the highest number of cases with 583. Ford County has 544 and Johnson County has 446.
Testing has ramped up in rural parts of the state where outbreaks at meatpacking plants have raised concerns.
Missouri saw an increase of 132 new cases Tuesday, bringing its total to 7,303, including 314 deaths.
As of Tuesday, more than 1 million cases have been identified in the U.S., according to Johns Hopkins University.
