B-2 flyover to honor front-line workers in COVID-19 battle thrills people around KC
People all around Kansas City had reason to step outside Tuesday morning. And it wasn’t just because of the sunny spring skies.
A B-2 stealth bomber from Whiteman Air Force Base did a flyover of area hospitals to “honor the healthcare professionals, first responders and essential personnel on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19.”
Following the B-2, were A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and T-38 Talons, all from the 509th Bomb Wing and 442nd Fighter Wing units at Whiteman.
Flyovers take place a few times a year at stadiums in Kansas City, but these were at Centerpoint Medical Center, Children’s Mercy Adele Hall, Children’s Mercy Hospital, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, St. Luke’s East Hospital, Research Medical Center, Western Missouri Medical Center and Bothwell Regional Health Center.
All took place between 10 a.m and 11:30 a.m. and gave people in the area a chance to watch from the parking lots at medical facilities (while maintaining a safe distance from others), home or work.
The sight of the planes thrilled health-care workers and anyone else who took the time to look to skies.
Many people around Kansas City shared videos and photos on Twitter:
