Missouri’s total of COVID-19 cases leaps past 7,100; disease has killed 288 people
The number of Missourians testing positive for the coronavirus leaped past the 7,000 mark Monday as 174 more people were confirmed to have been infected by the virus, according to statistics released by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
As of Monday, 7,171 people have tested positive for the virus, up from 6,997 positive patients reported on Sunday, according to state health officials Monday afternoon. On Sunday, 171 new cases were reported. Saturday, 201 more were reported.
Fourteen more people have died from COVID-19 as of Monday, bringing the state’s total to 288 deaths, according to the statistics.
More than 60% of the people testing positive for the coronavirus in Missouri are from the St. Louis region, with 2,897 cases and 137 deaths from St. Louis County, 1,027 cases and 54 deaths from St. Louis and 543 cases and 27 deaths from St. Charles County.
Meanwhile, Kansas City has 500 reported cases and 15 deaths and Jackson County has 309 cases and nine deaths.
Missouri has tested 70,932 people for the virus as of Sunday.
Meanwhile in Kansas, at least 3,328 people have been infected by the coronavirus with 120 people dying from COVID-19.
Kansas has tested 27,167 people for the disease, with 23,839 tests returning negative.
Nationwide, 979,077 people have tested positive for the disease and 55,637 people have died as of Monday afternoon, according to statistic from Johns Hopkins University.
