Missouri reports 3% increase in confirmed coronavirus cases Saturday

Missouri confirmed 201 more cases of the new coronavirus and 11 more deaths Saturday.

The increases, reported in data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Saturday afternoon, brings the state to 6,826 cases and 273 deaths.

The state saw a 3% increase in cases and 4% increase in deaths Saturday. Technical difficulties and delayed reporting caused the state to show a 20% increase in deaths and a 4.8% increase in cases Friday.

As of Friday more than 67,000 Missouri residents had been tested for the rapidly spreading virus.

More than half of the cases confirmed in Missouri were reported in the Saint Louis area, with 3,703 cases found in the county and city combined. In that area, 177 deaths have been reported.

In Kansas City, 486 cases and 15 deaths have been reported.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced Friday he would extend the state’s emergency declaration through June 15, though the state’s stay-at-home order will end on May 3.

The emergency declaration, Parson said, would allow continued flexibility in the use of funds to respond to the pandemic.

Across the state line, Kansas’ stay-at-home order is only effective through May 3. The state saw a 10% increase in COVID-19 cases Saturday and a 5.4% increase in deaths.

Nationwide, more than 924,000 people have been infected and more than 53,000 people have died from the virus according to a database managed by Johns Hopkins University.
