Fifty-nine new coronavirus cases, 6 more deaths reported Sunday in Kansas
Fifty-nine additional coronavirus cases were reported in Kansas Sunday.
The additional cases brought the state’s total to 1,849. The day before, 85 new cases had been reported. State officials have said less testing is often done on weekends.
The latest statistics, updated by the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment, showed six more deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number killed statewide to 92. At least 390 people have been hospitalized.
With 16,281 negative tests returned, the figures showed Kansas residents were testing positive at a rate of about 10 percent. As of Friday, the state ranked 49th in testing its residents.
KDHE does not report which county coronavirus deaths occur in, but from Saturday to Sunday the number of deaths reported by the Johnson County health department increased from 25 to 30.
Wyandotte County, hardest hit in the pandemic so far, has reported 35 deaths and 412 cases.
Clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks have been linked to Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation and a mid-March church conference in Kansas City, Kansas.
Missouri was scheduled to report updated statistics at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Star typically uses the statewide data to update figures for the Kansas City metropolitan area.
