One more COVID-19 death in Wyandotte County reported with more than a dozen new cases

One more person has died from complications related to the coronavirus in Wyandotte County in the past 24 hours, according to data from local health officials.

That person’s death raises the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the county to 31, according to the statistics.

The new death comes at the time where more than a dozen more people have tested positive for the virus, bringing the county’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 361, as of mid-morning Wednesday.

Another 187 people are considered probable positive cases virus based on symptoms they self-reported. County health officials says it’s likely those people, who have not been tested, have the COVID-19 disease. People who are deemed to be probable positive cases should isolate themselves at home just as if they had tested positive for the disease.

More than 500 people have self-reported their symptoms to county health officials.

The number of patients hospitalized remained at 42.

Wyandotte County has been hit the hardest in Kansas by the coronavirus. The county also has the largest COVID-19 outbreak in the state — Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where at least a dozen residents have died since the first death linked to the facility occurred on April 5.

Church services and events held in the county have also been a identified as clusters. At least one coronavirus-related death in Kansas and more than a dozen other confirmed cases are tied to a church conference in Wyandotte County.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has identified at least 15 cases associated with the Kansas East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction’s Ministers and Workers Conference held March 16-22 at the Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, 2106 Quindaro Blvd.

There have also been at least three positive cases associated with a gala on March 14 at the Rising Star Baptist Church, 1034 Walker Ave., and at least three cases linked to a church service on March 8 at Power Realm Church of God in Christ, 1319 N. 51st St., according to county health officials.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Johnson County, 332 people have tested positive for the coronavirus. There have been 19 deaths related to COVID-19, according to statistics released Wednesday morning by local health officials.

Statewide, there have been 1,426 people who have tested positive for the virus and 69 people who have died from the disease as of Tuesday morning.
