4 more residents test positive for COVID-19 at Harrisonville nursing home. 3 have died.
Four more people from a Harrisonville nursing home have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases there to 19.
The four new cases — all residents of the facility — were announced in a news release Tuesday from the Cass County Health Department, distributed on behalf of Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation, 2203 E. Mechanic St.
Eleven residents and two staff members have tested negative so far for the disease, the news release said. The results of four tests are pending.
Of the 19 cases that have been identified at the facility, 17 are residents and two are staff members.
Twelve of those residents remain in isolation at Meadow View, and two are in the hospital. Three residents — all women in their 80s — have died from the disease.
The number of cases has continued to grow since the first few were announced April 9.
Amid the coronavirus crisis, the facility said it restricted visitors, ceased group activities, closed the dining rooms and encouraged residents to remain their rooms.
“We are fostering as much communication as possible between our staff, our residents and their families during this difficult time when in-person visits are not allowed,” Craig Workman, a spokesman for Meadow View, said in a statement. “We are using staff cellphones to help connect those residents without phones to their families, and residents are still receiving mail. We are also exploring additional methods, technologies and activity projects to better connect residents with families.”
At least 45 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Cass County, where Meadow View is located, according to statistics from the local health department.
Statewide, at least 4,686 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 133 people have died as of Tuesday, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
