Third Cass County nursing home resident dies from coronavirus; 10 still in isolation
A third patient from a Cass County nursing facility has died after contracting the new coronavirus, the facility said Monday.
The patient, like the two others who died, was in her 80s, the Meadow View Health and Rehabilitation in Harrisonville said in a statement. The facility described her as a hospice patient.
As of Monday afternoon, 10 residents remained in isolation on the facility’s site after they tested positive for the virus. Two employees with the virus were recovering at home, the facility said.
Craig Workman, spokesperson for the facility, said staff members continued to screen residents at least twice a day. Every employee entering the building is checked for symptoms, such as signs of fever or cough, he said.
“All residents are encouraged to remain in their rooms,” he said. “Our staff continues to conduct one-on-one activities with residents and to help them stay in touch with their families.”
As of Sunday, 4,388 people tested positive for the virus in Missouri and 114 died. In Kansas, there have been 1,376 cases and 62 deaths.
Across the United States, more than 570,000 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and more than 23,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
