Two residents from Harrisonville nursing home die from coronavirus
Two residents from a Harrisonville nursing home have died from the novel coronavirus and another staff member has tested positive, according to a spokesman for the facility.
Craig Workman, a spokesman for Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation, 2203 E. Mechanic St., said the two residents who died were women in their 80s with underlying health conditions. The latest death was reported Saturday, and the first death was on Friday.
“Our sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of our two residents that have died,” Shayron Carr, the facility’s administrator, said in a statement Saturday. “We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of our staff that are working tirelessly to care for and protect the health and safety of our residents.”
A total of eight residents have tested positive for COVID-19, including the two who have since died from the disease, and two employees have tested positive. The first few cases were announced Thursday.
COVID-19-positive residents remain in isolation at Meadow View, and the two employees are recovering at their homes.
Meadow View said earlier this week it has been working with the Cass County Health Department to contain the coronavirus.
The nursing home said it began screening all residents and employees for symptoms of COVID-19 in early March. Residents who showed signs of a fever, cough or other symptoms associated with the virus were tested.
Employees who showed symptoms were asked to stay home and reach out to their primary care providers.
Testing began earlier this week, Workman told The Star.
There are 79 residents at Meadow View and about 90 employees, he said.
At least 36 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and one other person has died from the disease in Cass County where Meadow View is located, according to statistics from the local health department.
In Missouri, at least 4,024 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 109 people have died as of Saturday, according to the state’s Department of Health and Senior Services.
