Missouri exceeded 100 COVID-19 related deaths, 4,000 total cases
Thirteen more people died from the new coronavirus in Missouri and 225 people tested positive, bringing the state to more than 100 deaths and more than 4,000 cases of the the rapidly spreading virus, state health officials reported Saturday.
Statewide the state has confirmed at least 4,024 cases of COVID-19 and 109 deaths.
The update represents a 13.5% increase in deaths, down from about 25% Friday. Total cases increased by about 6%, according to data provided by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Of the nearly 43,000 people tested for the virus in the state, about 9% had the virus.
Seventy-one of the 109 fatalities from the virus in Missouri were residents over the age of 70. The youngest person to die from the virus in the state was in their 30s, according to state data.
The largest number of cases in the state are found in St. Louis. Combined, the county and city have reported 56 deaths and more than 2,100 cases of the virus.
Kansas City has confirmed seven COVID-19 related deaths and 298 cases, according to state numbers. In Jackson County, 208 cases and six deaths have been reported.
The other side of the state line in Kansas, which has tested about a quarter of the number of people tested in Missouri, had confirmed 1,268 COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths on Saturday.
The virus has infected more than 514,000 people and killed more than 19,000 nationwide, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University.
