Nearly 820 infected by coronavirus, at least 22 dead across Kansas City metro
Nearly 820 people in the Kansas City region have been infected with the new coronavirus, and at least 22 people have died, according to data compiled by The Star.
That count includes data from health officials in Kansas City as well as in Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri.
As of Monday afternoon, state officials reported 212 cases and five deaths in Kansas City, 149 cases and one death in Jackson County, 213 cases and nine deaths in Johnson County and 190 cases and seven deaths in Wyandotte County. In addition, 37 people tested positive for the virus in Clay County and 17 in Platte County.
Johnson and Wyandotte counties have reported the highest number of people to test positive for COVID-19 in Kansas, where state officials have recorded nearly 850 cases and 25 deaths.
In Missouri, St. Louis County has recorded the highest number of infections with 1,033 cases and 13 deaths. Officials on Monday reported 2,722 cases and 39 deaths across the state.
Missouri has tested more than 29,400 people, about three times as many people as Kansas.
Also Monday, the Kansas City VA Medical Center said a veteran in their 60s died Sunday from COVID-19 complications, four days after the patient was admitted to the hospital.
Nationwide, there were more than 352,500 cases and 10,300 deaths as of Monday afternoon, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University. Worldwide, there were more than 1,324,900 cases and 73,700 deaths.
