Coronavirus cases in Missouri top 2,700, deaths rise to 39
More than 2,700 people in Missouri have now tested positive for the new coronavirus, including 39 people who have died, state officials reported Monday.
That was an increase of more than 350 cases and five deaths from the day before. The updated count includes 1,033 confirmed cases in St. Louis County, 357 in St. Louis city, 212 in Kansas City, 188 in St. Charles County and 149 in Jackson County.
St. Louis County has recorded the most deaths at 13, according to state data. Of the dead across Missouri, five were in their 50s, seven in their 60s, 14 in their 70s and 11 were 80 or older. One person was in their 30s and another in their 40s.
Of the infected, state officials listed 114 as being related to travel and 95 to contact. Another nine had no known contact. But the overwhelming majority — 2,513 — were categorized as “under investigation.”
Also Monday, the Kansas City VA Medical Center said a veteran in their 60s died Sunday from COVID-19 complications, four days after the patient was admitted to the hospital.
More than 29,400 have been tested for the virus across the state.
In Kansas, officials have recorded nearly 850 cases and 25 deaths.
Missouri has tested about three times as many people as Kansas.
Nationwide, there were more than 352,500 cases and 10,300 deaths as of Monday afternoon, according to a database maintained by Johns Hopkins University. Worldwide, there were more than 1,324,900 cases and 73,700 deaths.
