Kansas reports nearly 50 more coronavirus cases and one additional death
Kansas reported 49 more confirmed coronavirus cases Sunday, according to statistics updated by state health officials.
The increase brought the total number of people testing positive for the new virus statewide to 747, as reported by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. That represented an increase of about 7% from Saturday, when the state counted 698 cases.
The state also reported an additional death from COVID-19, bringing the total number killed by the disease in Kansas to 22.
So far, 183 people in Kansas have been hospitalized with COVID-19. With the number of negative tests Sunday counted at 7,476, people in Kansas were testing positive for the virus at a rate of about 9 percent.
Johnson County, which has led the state in confirmed cases, reported 192 as of Sunday. Wyandotte County reported 158.
A digital map updated by The Star on Saturday showed the spread of the virus across the state. Sunday’s numbers would be added to the map.
Testing rates across the state remained lower than 10 per 1,000 residents.
In Johnson County, residents were tested at a rate of 3.06 per 1,000. In Wyandotte County the figure was 5.11 and in Leavenworth County 5.77.
Missouri has found about three times as many coronavirus cases as Kansas, but has also tested about three times as many people. People in both states have tested positive at rates close to 8 or 9 percent.
In Kansas, the greatest number of people testing positive across the state came in the age range of 55-64, with 151 cases, or about 20 percent of the total. The others broke down as follows:
Ages 0-9: 4
Ages 10-19: 11
Ages 20-34: 110
Ages 35-44: 105
Ages 65-74: 120
Ages 75-84: 68
Age 85 or older: 39.
