Kansas reports eight COVID-19 related deaths as number of new cases continues to grow
Two more people have died of COVID-19 in Kansas, bringing the state’s total of deaths to eight, according to statistics released Monday afternoon by Kansas health officials.
The number of cases also continue to grow and stands at 368, according to the updated numbers. That’s an increase of nearly 50 new cases from Sunday. That’s up from the 18 cases related to the coronavirus disease reported a week ago by health officials.
The three hardest hit counties include Johnson County, which has 116 COVID-19 cases, Wyandotte County, which has 67 and Sedgwick County, which has 49, according to state health officials.
The state reported that 4,554 tests have returned with a negative result.
Wyandotte County, which had 52 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, saw its numbers increase to 67 cases. There have been four deaths related to the coronavirus in the county.
Meanwhile, Johnson County saw its numbers increase to 116, up eight new cases from Sunday. Two people in the county have died from COVID-19.
Deaths have also been reported in Shawnee and Crawford counties.
In Missouri, there were 903 COVID-19 cases with 12 deaths as of Sunday afternoon. The state is expected to update its numbers Monday afternoon.
In the United States, there were at least 153,246 confirmed cases of the disease, according to the latest statistics from Johns Hopkins University. There have been a total of 2,828 deaths in the U.S.
