Number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in Johnson, Wyandotte counties

Seven new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Johnson County, bringing its total to 66.

On Thursday, the county had 59 cases, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, by far the highest in Kansas.

Officials in the county this week called on more resources for testing at private labs.

Wyandotte County has three new cases, upping its number to 37. Of those, 19 are hospitalized, the county’s health department said.

A man in his 80s died Thursday in Wyandotte County, officials said Friday.

Four people in Kansas have died from the virus. All of the deaths have been in Wyandotte and Johnson counties.

More than 86,000 people in the U.S. have been infected with the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.
