Kansas’ fourth coronavirus death reported in Wyandotte County on Friday morning

A Wyandotte County man in his 80s with “multiple underlying health conditions” died Thursday from the new coronavirus, health officials said Friday.

The man, who lived at home prior to his death, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Monday, Janell Friesen, spokeswoman for the county health department, said in an email.

He is the fourth person in Kansas and third in Wyandotte County to die from the virus. 37 people in the county have been infected.

“We’re very sad to see yet another community member lost to COVID-19,” Friesen said. “That’s why we really want to remind people of the importance of the Stay at Home order, and that we can all do our part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

On Tuesday, county officials reported that a man in his 70s had died at a hospital after he tested positive for the virus. Earlier this month, a man in his 70s who lived in a long-term care facility in Wyandotte County was posthumously diagnosed with the disease.

A 74-year-old Lenexa man died from the disease last week.

In Kansas, 169 people have tested positive for the virus, according to the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment.

There are 502 confirmed cases in Missouri, including eight deaths, according to dat kept by state health officials.
