Man in 70s is second person to die from coronavirus in Wyandotte County, officials say
A man in his 70s who tested positive for the new coronavirus last week has died from the disease, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, announced Tuesday night.
The patient is the second COVID-19-related death reported in the county and the third in the state of Kansas.
According to the county’s statement, the man was admitted to a local hospital on March 16 and tested positive for the coronavirus on March 18. He was discharged from the hospital March 20, but was admitted to another hospital on March 22, where he died late in the evening on Monday, March 23.
“We offer our prayers and thoughts to the family and friends of the deceased. Their sadness is our sadness,” Mayor David Alvey said in a statement. “Our own family and friends are precious to us, and so I call on each one of us to protect one another and stop the spread of COVID-19!”
Statewide, at least 98 people have tested positive for COVID-19, according to statistics provided by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Tuesday. Two others have died: a 74-year-old Lenexa man and a man in his 70s who lived in a long-term care facility in Wyandotte County.
