Johnson County reports more coronavirus cases, total hits 50 with more young patients

The number of additional confirmed positive cases of the new coronavirus in Johnson County increased by four Thursday morning, bringing the county’s total to 50, according to health officials.

Just a day earlier, Johnson County health officials reported an additional 10 cases of COVID-19, which had raised the county’s total to 46.

A look at the breakdown of patients’ ages shows that nearly 55 percent of the patients were under 50 years old, with those ranging in age from 30 to 49 accounting for 35 percent of the cases. Patients in their 20s accounted for 18 percent of the county’s cases.

Kansas health officials on Thursday morning were reporting 127 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including two deaths in Wyandotte and one in Johnson County. Johnson County has the highest number of confirmed cases in the state.

In the Kansas City area, there have been at least 149 COVID-19 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The Kansas City Health Department reported Wednesday that it had 32 cases in the Jackson County part of Kansas City, 15 in the Clay County part of Kansas City and 4 in the Platte County part of Kansas City.

Missouri health officials on Thursday morning were reporting 356 cases, including 8 deaths. Three of the deaths were in Springfield, one was in St. Louis and one each was reported in Boone, Jackson, St. Charles and St. Louis counties.

Nationally, there have been at least 69,246 reported COVID-19 cases with 1,046 deaths.
