Johnson County health officials report 10 additional cases of COVID-19

Johnson County health officials on Wednesday reported 10 additional confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the county’s total to 46.

On Tuesday, Kansas health officials said there were 98 cases confirmed, including two deaths, one each in Wyandotte and Johnson counties. Johnson County has the highest number of confirmed cases in the state.

According to Kansas state health officials, 2,186 tests have been conducted for COVID-19 in the state. About 4.5% of those patients tested positive.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has imposed a statewide ban on gatherings larger than 10, replacing an earlier order that limited groups to 50.

Tuesday marked the first day of stay-at-home orders for residents throughout the Kansas City area.

Residents are permitted to go grocery shopping, exercise and get medical care. But all non-essential businesses were ordered to close.

Kansas City and Johnson, Jackson and Wyandotte counties were the first jurisdictions to impose such changes. Other area counties have followed. Ray County, Missouri, issued a similar order Tuesday.

Several communities closed their public parks or restricted access to specific areas.
