Kansas City adds 21 coronavirus cases for total of 51, health department announces

Fifty-one people in Kansas City have tested positive for the novel coronavirus as of Wednesday, an increase of 21 from the 30 cases previously reported Tuesday, according to statistics released by the city’s health department.

Of the 51, four are currently in the hospital, the Kansas City Health Department said on Twitter.

Zero fatalities have been reported in the city, though four people have died from the disease in surrounding areas: three across the state line in Kansas and one in eastern Jackson County.

In the Twitter post, the Kansas City Health Department provided a breakdown of the COVID-19 cases by county as city spans multiple counties.

Within Kansas City, 15 cases have been identified in Clay County, 32 in Jackson County and four in Platte County.

The patients range from 20 to 75 years old.

To help slow the spread of the coronavirus, the city issued a stay at home order, which is in effect now until April 24.

Statewide, at least 356 people have tested positive for COVID-19, and eight people have died from the disease, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services stated Wednesday.
