At least 255 people in Missouri have tested positive for COVID-19, and 8 have died
At least 255 people in Missouri have tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to statistics released Tuesday afternoon by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Earlier in the day, the state was reporting 183 COVID-19 cases. Of the numbers released Tuesday, St. Louis County leads the state with at least 100 cases. More cases are expected to be found as more people are tested.
Eight Missourians have died from COVID-19. Three of them were residents of the Morningside of Springfield East assisted-living facility in Springfield, according to Greene County public health officials. The three were women in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
Another death reported Monday by health officials in St. Charles County was a man in his 70s, who had been hospitalized.
Also on Tuesday, Kansas reported 98 people tested positive for the virus. Two have died.
In Missouri, a breakdown of the number of cases by county was being updated Tuesday afternoon. A disclaimer posted on the state health department website states that cases by county are posted as information is verified and patients are notified, so the data may not be complete. Some test results come from the state laboratory while others are included from private laboratories.
According to the state health department website, at least 33 cases were identified as travel-related while 19 were determined as cases involving people who had contact with someone with COVID-19.
Nine are identified as “no known contact” cases, and 194 cases are listed as “unknown.”
The cases reported Tuesday were also broken down by the age range:
- Eight patients are under the age of 20
- 60 patients are in their 20s
- 34 patients are in their 30s
- 27 patients are in their 40s
- 51 patients are in their 50s
- 42 patients are in their 60s
- 33 patients are 70 or older
