Missouri jumps to 73 total COVID-19 cases Friday night, health department reports
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is reporting that at least 73 people in the state have tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to statistics released Friday night.
Earlier in the day, the state was reporting 47 COVID-19 cases.
Additional cases have been identified in areas including Kansas City, Cass County and Jackson County.
Three Missourians have died from the disease, including two women whose deaths were announced by officials on Friday: a woman in her 60s in St. Louis County and a woman in her 80s from Jackson County.
A breakdown of the number of cases by county was updated Friday night, though a disclaimer posted on the state health department website states that cases by county are posted as information is verified and patients are notified, so the data may not be complete. Some test results come from the state laboratory while others are included from private laboratories.
According to the state health department website, at least 22 cases were identified as travel-related while seven were determined as cases involving people who had contact with someone with COVID-19. The remaining 44 cases are listed as “unknown.”
The 73 cases reported Friday night were also broken down by the age range:
- One patient is under the age of 20
- 14 patients are in their 20s
- 12 patients are in their 30s
- 10 patients are in their 40s
- 12 patients are in their 50s
- 12 patients are in their 60s
- 12 patients are 70 or older
