St. Louis County woman is the third person to die from COVID-19 in Missouri

A St. Louis County woman died from the new coronavirus, marking the third COVID-19-related death reported in Missouri, officials said Friday.

County Executive Sam Page, who made the announcement during a news conference Friday evening, said the woman was in her 60s. She “had multiple health complications” before she was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this week, he said. The patient died at the hospital.

Officials say it is unknown how the woman contracted the virus.

“There are really no words that can heal the pain of a loved one’s death, but we know that our hearts are aching, and know that our community is mourning your loss,” Page said, addressing the woman’s family.

The first person in Missouri to die from COVID-19 was reported Wednesday — a Boone County resident in their 60s who had recently traveled overseas.

Earlier Friday, the second death in the state was announced in Jackson County, where a woman in her 80s died soon after testing positive. She had no prior travel history, officials said.

As of Friday morning, the state reported that at least 47 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
