Teenage student is fourth person in Wyandotte County to test positive for COVID-19
A male student at a private high school in Wyandotte County has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is under home quarantine, health officials in Kansas City, Kansas, announced Tuesday afternoon.
County leaders said they learned about the case Tuesday afternoon and are working closely with the teen’s school. The patient is younger than 18.
The new cases bring the number of coronavirus cases identified in Wyandotte County to four, according to Allen Greiner, the county’s chief medical officer.
One, a man in his 70s, died last week.
Two more cases of the COVID-19 virus in Wyandotte County were reported earlier Tuesday. Those patients, two women in their 40s and 50s, were self-isolating at home, officials said.
“On behalf of all of the staff, we hope these patients make a speedy recovery,” Greiner said.
Health officials continued to investigate how the patients contracted the virus.
“This is a process where we trace the patient’s steps and activities so we can identify anyone who may have been potentially exposed to the COVID-19,” he said. “Seeing additional cases of COVID-19 in our county is a call to action for all of us.
“It is up to our community as a whole to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect those in our community who are most vulnerable to serious illness,” Griener said.
Earlier Tuesday, officials in Ford County said that a woman in her 60s who recently traveled to the county also tested positive. The woman’s family is under quarantine.
In Johnson County, 10 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus.
