This popular chicken chain is eyeing another space at Overland Park mall
A chain famous for its chicken sandwiches could be opening another location in Overland Park, according to preliminary plans filed with the city.
Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has its sights set on a space on the Oak Park Mall property, where the On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina was located at 11855 W. 95th St. The plan was filed with the Kansas suburb back in May.
The company wouldn’t confirm the location or provide any additional information about the potential restaurant Tuesday.
“We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new guests great food with remarkable service,” the statement said. “While we would very much like to have more restaurants in the Overland Park community, we have no new locations to confirm at this time.”
But what the early plans reveal is a Chick-fil-A with a double drive-thru and parking for 53 vehicles. The proposed building would be 5,157 square feet, nearly 1,000 square feet bigger than a currently operating Chick-fil-A by the mall on Quivira Road.
It also isn’t clear if the proposed Chick-fil-A would be a replacement of the current one, but the plan described the new location as a project to “improve customer service and restaurant operations.”
If plans move forward, the new Chick-fil-A would be located next to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and Houlihan’s, and in front of the mall’s Barnes & Noble and Dillard’s entrances.
It would take over the space where On the Border once sat. The Tex-Mex chain closed in March after 25 years in business, marking the departure of the brand from the Kansas City area.
