It’s been several years since Huddle House, a Georgia-based diner chain, closed its only Kansas City-area location in Westport.

The spot at 3959 Broadway was an on-again, off-again affair, reported The Pitch in 2015. But at some point, it never reopened.

Now Huddle House is back — this time moving into a Lee’s Summit gas station.

The restaurant company, which has drawn comparisons to fellow Georgia native Waffle House, opened its 26550 NE Colbern Road location June 24, inside a TempStop gas station.

Assistant general manager Nicholas Beatty said the new location is owned by the same franchisee as the Sedalia location, which is also in a TempStop. The Sedalia spot opened last year.

“We’re hoping to continue the good traditions there as well,” Beatty said.

Huddle House first opened in Decatur, Georgia, in 1964. It offers flavored waffles, buttermilk pancakes, “fluffed and stuffed” omelets, smash burgers, salads, and more breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

While its Lee’s Summit spot is open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., some of its nearly 250 locations are open 24 hours a day.

Waffle House, meanwhile, has more than 2,000 locations across the country, with 13 in the KC metro. It has one in Lee’s Summit at 1699 NE Douglas St.
