A custom suit shop is now open in Johnson County: ‘Answer to everything’

A custom suit shop is coming to the Kansas City area this summer.

H.M. Cole, in the Leawood Town Center Plaza, started taking clients this week and is planning a grand opening next month, according to Ethan Parrish, general manager at the shop.

“It’s been really cool to take a passion of mine and start helping guys who are looking for answers to problems that they didn’t know they were having,” Parrish said. “If you go in and buy an off-the-rack suit, and it doesn’t quite fit, you can get it tailored to kind of fit, but here we have the answer to everything.”

The Johnson County shop offers custom suits, trousers, sport coats, dress shirts, wardrobe consultation and wedding pieces like suits, tuxedos, dinner jackets and pants, according to the website.

H.M. Cole began filling the storefront at 11828 Roe Ave. about a month ago, around when Parrish was hired. He had been working in men’s jewelry and had always dreamed about working in menswear since getting his clothing tailored several times.

“One of the things I always enjoyed was having a little more personality in my wardrobe than someone else. If you’re going to stick in someone’s mind, they’re probably going to think about you later,” he said. “I’m kind of a slim guy, I’m a hard body type to fit, so I wound up going through the custom fitting process several times with a few different makers.”

What Parrish said sets H.M. Cole apart is the fact that it owns and operates the factory that hand cuts and assembles the suits to the customer’s measurements.

“A lot of other companies use us to produce their goods just under their own label, so we do a lot of business across the nation,” Parrish said.

H.M. Cole has been featured in Forbes and USA Today, according to its website. The Leawood opening will mark the 11th H.M. Cole location across the United States.

Customers can schedule appointments calling the shop. H.M. Cole is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
