A Kansas City chicken restaurant, bar and music venue is closed
A retro-style chicken restaurant, bar and music venue in Westport has sung its last song.
Laney’s Get Down, which opened in December 2024 at 4057 Pennsylvania Ave., closed at the end of March.
The Nashville-based group behind neighboring bar Tin Roof also headed up Laney’s. Bob Franklin, CEO of Tin Roof, said they tried the concept for a year and decided that something else could do better there.
“It wasn’t working out as well as we would’ve liked,” Franklin said. “Longtime tenants in the neighborhood want to see the neighborhood do well.”
Franklin said another business is poised to enter the space, but it’s not his concept. He declined to speak further on the incoming spot.
When Laney’s opened over a year ago, the ‘70s-themed restaurant aimed to be a food-first Southern comfort food spot hosting live bands.
The space was home to Mickey’s Hideaway before that, which closed in late 2022. It had a three-year run in the space.
Before that, McCoy’s Public House operated there for 21 years.
Tin Roof is still open at 424 Westport Road and “alive and well” next door, Franklin said.
“Definitely a bright future ahead.”
