Tex-Mex chain opens first KC-area location, offering a dozen margarita flavors
A tacos and tequila-centric chain from Illinois has opened its first spot in the Kansas City metro.
Ancho & Agave is now open in the Summit Fair shopping center at 860a NW Blue Valley Parkway in Lee’s Summit.
The restaurant opened a couple of weeks ago and serves a dozen different margarita flavors — prickly pear, grapefruit, jalapeño, smoky blood orange, mango-habanero and more.
Ancho & Agave also sells DIY margarita kits for customers who want to make their own mixed drinks at home. Kits include tequila, house margarita mix, lime juice, salt and mason jars.
Items on its food menu include chicken asada street tacos ($4.75 each), chili lime shrimp quesadillas ($18.50), carnitas enchiladas ($7.25), birria ($20) and more. It offers customers bar, patio and table seating.
The Lee’s Summit spot is Ancho & Agave’s seventh location. The chain was founded in 2019 by Todd Hovenden, whose ventures with PepsiCo led him to work with concepts like Taco Bell and Chevys Fresh Mex.
Previously, the Summit Fair spot was home to Kansas City-based beauty retailer Beauty Brands.
Founded in 1995, Beauty Brands recently announced the closure of two stores in the area: one in Shawnee and another on the Country Club Plaza.
Summit Fair was recently purchased by Block & Co., Inc., Realtors. The company’s other shopping centers include Ward Parkway Plaza, Village of Seville in Leawood, and Independence Center Mall.
