After 10 years in business, a Kansas City American restaurant with a Southern twist will close.

The Homesteader Cafe at 100 E. Seventh St. is shutting its doors at the end of the month.

The restaurant announced via social media Friday afternoon that its last day would be Oct. 31.

“The last year has been rough and we made the hard decision to close,” the restaurant said on its page. “We will miss this community and all the friends and acquaintances we have made here throughout the years.”

Jeremy Lane, who owns the restaurant with his wife Megan Kendall, said the restaurant business became overwhelming and they were not able to find someone else to take on day-to-day operations.

“We’re just ready to move on and do other things,” Lane said.

The couple would like to sell the restaurant as-is for the next operator, but they’d need to find someone by the end of next week. (Interested parties can email jeremy@thehomesteadercafe.com.)

Either way, the couple is ready to wave goodbye to this chapter of their lives.

“It’s been a fun ride,” he said. “People that don’t see us as much who aren’t nearby should stop by and see us one more time.”
