Owners of popular KC restaurants take over Strang Hall. Changes ahead
Culinary Virtue — the ownership group behind Meat Mitch, Char Bar and Beer Kitchen — has taken over Strang Hall in downtown Overland Park.
The restaurant group announced Monday that several changes were coming to the food hall at 7313 W. 80th St., the first of which involves adding burger-centric Beer Kitchen to its roster.
Beer Kitchen will begin serving patties, Hertzog hot dogs and Belgian-cut fries out of the space Sept. 26, according to the brand. Brown butter lobster rolls will be served each Friday, and crispy tempura-battered cod and chips will be available each Saturday.
Beer Kitchen has been open at 435 Westport Road since 2010.
Additionally, a revised version of Strang Cafe will offer coffee from Prefix Coffee, syrups and pastries from Fika Coffee, baked goods from Kate Smith Soiree, and juice from Zen Donkey Farms. The all woman-owned concept will launch in October.
A statement from Culinary Virtue teased more menu tweaks and design touches to the existing concepts, with phased changes rolling out into the fall.
Despite the changes, Strang Hall aims to hold true to its original chef-driven philosophy.
“We’re excited to usher Strang Hall into its next chapter with a mix of fresh concepts and introducing beloved local brands that we know our community will embrace,” Mark Kelpe of Culinary Virtue said in a statement to the media. “Downtown Overland Park is one of the region’s most vibrant food communities, and our vision is to create a space that is welcoming while also serving as a destination for culinary discovery.”
Strang Hall opened in downtown Overland Park’s Edison district in 2019, named after Overland Park founder William B. Strang Jr.
At the time of opening, it advertised itself as being an incubator for hopeful restaurant owners to get their concepts off the ground, much like the Lenexa Public Market.
That ownership group, Strang Chef Collectives, went on to open locations on the Country Club Plaza and downtown, both of which closed last year.
The Country Club spot at 4620 Wornall Road reopened weeks ago as Plaza Provisions, another food hall concept serving dishes from Lula Southern Provisions, Guys Deli and Pizza, Hawg Jaw Que and Brew, and J. Rieger & Co.
