Massive Johnson County restaurant, entertainment spot closes after 11 years
Is Johnson County’s bowling and bocce bistro no more?
While representatives with Pinstripes could not be reached to confirm its permanent closure, the Illinois-based restaurant has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and locked the doors to 10 of its locations.
Those spots — including the Overland Park location at 13500 Nall Ave. — have been removed from Pinstripes’ website. Eight locations remain listed online.
A voicemail message at the Prairiefire location tells customers that the spot will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Representatives with Prairiefire could not confirm whether the closure was temporary or permanent.
In a statement sent out to several media outlets, Pinstripes explained its next steps.
“ … we have a committed buyer for our continuing locations, and we will continue to market our assets as a going concern to maximize value. This decision was made to strengthen our financial foundation by reducing liabilities – including closing certain locations – to ensure business continuity and to position the Company for long-term success and growth,” the statement reads in part.
The Prairiefire location opened in 2014, offering nearly 34,000 square feet of bowling, bocce (an Italian yard game) and dining.
Its Italian-American menu included wood-fired pizzas, pastas, cocktails and more.
The filing comes after months of struggle, with sales sliding millions of dollars and the company taking out a $7.5 million loan to recover, according to industry outlet Restaurant Dive.
In the same shopping center, another “eatertainment” venue remains open. Chicken and Pickle, which has a spot at 5901 W. 135th St., announced in June that it was pumping the brakes on opening more concepts due to the “unknowns with international economic headwinds.”
The Patrick Mahomes-backed concept has spots in Oklahoma City, San Antonio, St. Charles, Wichita and beyond.
