New Kansas City rooftop bar opening soon. ‘A casual date night place’
With warm evenings and delayed sunsets come an increase in Kansas Citians looking for rooftop bars.
Percheron, Horsefeather and John’s Big Deck are a few of locals’ go-tos for panoramic views — but soon, the owners of The Combine will add a new option to the list.
The Skyline Rooftop Bar will open above the building’s third floor on Wednesday at 2999 Troost Ave. It lives directly above the deli and pizza restaurant.
Owner Charles Peach said he and business partner Alan Kneeland had always planned to open a separate concept above The Combine. Five years after the duo opened their restaurant, it’s finally happening.
While The Combine is a lively pizza joint, Peach said Skyline will have more of an intimate feel.
“We’re looking at Skyline to be a casual date night space,” he said. “A little more attentive service than what we do at The Combine.”
Skyline will serve bruschetta, shrimp cocktails, flatbreads, several craft cocktails and other shareables.
A few items Peach highlighted: the Skyline Pesto (a flatbread pizza with walnut pesto, roasted chicken breast, fresh Roma tomatoes, mozzarella and shaved basil leaf) and a smoked salmon bruschetta (a creamy feta base, Roma tomatoes, spinach, balsamic vinaigrette and Scottish smoked salmon).
Customers will enter through The Combine and be escorted to an elevator that will take them to the rooftop — similar to Ocean Prime and Prime Social’s setup.
Skyline fits 120 customers. It’ll be first-come, first-serve, at least at the start. Peach said they might switch to reservations if there’s enough of a demand.
The rooftop — with greenery, a tin-lined bar and plenty of couches for lounging — was designed by Angelo Wright Jr. and Darrell Johnson of Dscover Ur Dzine.
Its hours will be 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays; and 3 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
Peach and Kneeland opened The Combine in 2020, serving slices in collaboration with Pizza 51, deli sandwiches, wings and drinks on-tap. In 2024, Kneeland served as the first Black president of the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association.
