This brunch restaurant is opening soon in old home of popular KC restaurant
After just a couple of months spent transforming its new Westport space, AR’s Breakfast & Brunch will open at 4117 Pennsylvania Ave.
The restaurant is taking over Chingu’s old spot and opens to the public Monday.
Oscar Romero, who owns AR’s, said he’s looking forward to bringing his recipes to his Missouri customers.
Many AR’s fans are used to driving to his restaurant near downtown Overland Park at 8021 Metcalf Ave. for Mexican-style recipes like horchata waffles, chilaquiles, churro pancakes and more.
“We figured, just give them a closer location,” Romero said. “Never had a business in Missouri.”
The spot has a similar aesthetic as the other AR’s location: greenery, neon signs and Romero’s giant mimosa glasses. Typically ordered for a table, the glasses hold two bottles of champagne. It’s an AR’s favorite.
While the menu will be nearly identical to the Overland Park spot — fajita omelets, banana monster waffles, breakfast tacos, etc. — the Westport spot will have more drink options.
Romero said the new location will have exactly the same hours as the original: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
AR’s will also open another location in Olathe after it was forced to close its 105 S. Clairborne Road spot at the end of the year for the I-35 and Santa Fe corridor project.
Romero’s not quite ready to announce the new location, though he hopes to soon.
Before Chingu closed, it enjoyed three years in Westport. It aimed to push the boundaries of what people know about Korean cuisine until it closed in May. Chef and owner KeeYoung Kim cited a desire to spend more time with his family, as well as prioritize his mental and physical health.
Just down the street, Amante Domingo recently opened his new wine lounge/coffee concept,. Le Champion. It serves espresso drinks, shareables and more at its 4149 Pennsylvania Ave. space.
