Coffee chain with all-day breakfast is making its way to the KC area

Mokas

Mokas Coffee and Eatery — a Salina, Kansas-based coffee chain with locations in Wichita — is looking to open its first spot in the Kansas City area.

Mokas has submitted plans to open a cafe at 119th Street and Ridgeview Road, north of CoreFirst Bank, according to documents filed with the city of Olathe.

The coffee shop’s projected opening date is March 2026.

Christian Coleman owns Midwest Restaurant Group and is Mokas’ first franchisee. He aims to open six sit-down and drive-thru spots in three northeast Kansas counties by 2032 — Johnson County; Douglas County, which includes Lawrence, and Shawnee County, which includes Topeka.

“As a proud Kansan, I couldn’t be more excited to bring Mokas Coffee and Eatery to the Kansas City area,” Coleman said in a written statement. “We’re thrilled to plant roots here and look forward to serving great coffee, delicious meals, and creating spaces where people can gather, connect, and feel right at home.”

Owned by Salina-based food group JRI Hospitality, Mokas serves cold brews, lattes, matcha, chai and smoothies.

Its food menu features all-day breakfast items like the chipotle breakfast sandwich (eggs, bacon, sausage, American and pepperjack cheeses, and chipotle sauce served on wheatberry bread) and breakfast burritos.

Lunch options include the chicken Caesar wrap, classic reuben and chicken pesto sandwich.

The brand boasts of made-to-order menu items and specially roasted beans.

Jason Ingermanson first opened in Salina roughly 20 years ago and serves as the CEO of JRI Hospitality.

Mokas first entered the Wichita market in 2022.

Last year, Scott Redler, co-founder of Freddy’s, was appointed the board president of JRI Hospitality. Ingermanson attributed the brand’s expansion to Redler, saying in a media release that he “set ambitious goals and delivered on every expectation.”
