New Johnson County sports and outdoors store is opening soon. Here’s what to know
Sports and outdoors store Sierra — formerly Sierra Trading Post — is opening its second spot in the Kansas City area.
The 19,000-square-foot location will open March 15 at 9656 Quivira Road in Lenexa, in Orchard Corners.
Florida-based Stein Mart opened in the space in 2009. It operated there for 11 years before the company filed for bankruptcy.
Part of TJ Maxx’s brands, Sierra sells activewear, outdoor gear, camping equipment and more.
The location will celebrate its grand opening at 8 a.m. that day with a DJ, giveaways and more, according to a news release from the company.
Its regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
The new store will be Sierra’s third in Kansas, with one in Wichita and another in Overland Park, 7860 W. 161st St.
The Overland Park spot opened in the booming Bluhawk development last year, marking the first in the metro. It’s been in Wichita since 2022.
Sierra first opened in 1986 and now has 118 stores worldwide.
