After exiting Johnson County, Georgia-based chicken chain Zaxbys has just opened its first spot in Leavenworth.

The chicken chain opened its new location Monday at 4925 S. Fourth St., marking its fifth spot currently open in the broader Kansas City area.

Its other restaurants are 5201 NE Antioch Road, 10430 NE Cookingham Drive, 2035 N. 109th St. in Kansas City, Kansas, and 401 S. Broadway in Oak Grove.

Last year, Zaxbys said goodbye to its last Johnson County location at 12195 S. Strang Line Road in Olathe, which had been open for seven years.

Its Overland Park spot closed sometime before at 9500 W. 135th. Then, Beef-A-Roo took over the location. It operated for less than two years before closing recently.

The new Zaxbys is 3,400 square feet and seats about 58 customers inside, according to a statement from the company. It also has a drive-thru.

Zaxbys sells chicken fingers, salads, chicken sandwiches, fried pickles, cheddar bites, fries and more.

The chain got its start in 1990 in Statesboro, Georgia, thanks to founders Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley.

Today, it has dozens of locations in the South, Southwest and Midwest.
