Openings & Closings

Kansas City restaurant and pub owned by slain chef officially closed, space for lease

Brady & Fox has been closed since August, when owner Shaun Brady was killed outside the Brookside restaurant while taking out the trash.

Much happened in the wake of Brady’s death: the community mourned the loss of the Irish chef, two suspects were charged with his murder, and, in a surprise twist, one of those suspects was later released.

But the future of Brady & Fox, which Brady opened in 2022 at 751 E. 63rd St., remained uncertain.

Now, there’s closure: Brady & Fox will not reopen, and the space is up for lease, said Butch Rigby, who owns the property.

“Shaun was a very unique chef, and trying to continue on or sell the restaurant after he was gone just wasn’t much of an option for his family,” Rigby said. “So, we’re working with them to release the space and let them move on with their lives.”

Brady, 44, left behind a wife and two young children.

The space is about 5,000 square feet, but Rigby said he may convert a thousand of those square feet into separate office or retail space, depending on potential tenants.

“We’re making the 4,000-square-foot option available,” he said. “We’d like to see a restaurant go in there, and a smaller space might make the space more rentable.”

Interested parties can reach Rigby at 816-421-2200.
