The board game pub Pawn & Pint will close Saturday, ownership announced over the weekend.

“Thank you Kansas City for many years of letting us game on!” the Facebook post said. “November 30th will be our last day. Sadly, no saving throw can save us this time. Join us in our final week.”

Edward Schmalz and Jonathan Steel opened Pawn & Pint in 2016 after raising nearly $20,000 in a Kickstarter effort. It was originally located at 221 Southwest Blvd. in the Crossroads but moved in 2017 to 613 Walnut St., just north of the River Market.

The bar served beer, snacks and coffee, and offered access to hundreds of board games for a $5 cover. Pawn & Pint also hosted events like trivia, speed dating, and Dungeons and Dragons open play nights.

“So sad to hear this,” one fan wrote under the post. “When I moved to KC, visiting Pawn & Pint helped me meet a bunch of wonderful people who turned into close friends. Thanks for all the memories.”

Several others inquired what might happen to the bar’s collection of board games. The owners did not respond to an email and calls from The Star.
