New Chick-fil-A is about to open in Johnson County. It will be drive-thru only
Chick-fil-A is opening its drive-thru location in Shawnee on Tuesday, the company has announced.
The location at 11500 Shawnee Mission Parkway is in a former Applebee’s.
Unlike most other Chick-fil-A locations, the restaurant will not be open for dine-in. Instead, it will take drive-thru orders in one lane, and mobile pickup orders made through the chain’s app in another. It will also have a walk-up window.
An outdoor patio will accommodate up to 24 customers.
The new location is “designed for speed and efficiency,” the company’s press release said. It will be open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The company says its new restaurant will create jobs for 80 people. Chick-fil-A is offering free entrees for a year to 100 “local heroes” in the community, according to its press release.
The Atlanta-based company has dozens of locations in the Kansas City area, including a spot nearby in Mission at 6039 Metcalf Ave.
The new location’s operator, Drew Severns, helped open the Lenexa location at 15919 W. 87th St. in 2020.
“When I was selected to open my own Chick-fil-A in my hometown, just miles away from where I started my Chick-fil-A journey, I saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community that had given so much to me,” Severns said in a media release.
The Shawnee Applebee’s closed last May after 33 years of business. Another recently closed Applebee’s nearby, 12242 W. 95th St. in Lenexa, will soon become a First Watch.
